Pi Joe A Real Science Hero

Mathematicians are kind of like number warriors, so it's only natural that they've got Pi as a "real science" hero!

Irrational Pi Day Epic Pirate Symbol

It's perfectly rational to be irrational on the day we celebrate the irrational number pi!

In this clever design, indie artist Mudge draws a Pi symbol wearing a pirate hat with a skull and crossbones design, as well as an eyepatch with the numbers "3.14". This pi-rate is also wearing a gold hoop earing on one side, a peg leg, and has a parrot perched on top of it. How much more pirate-y can it be?

The design features the text "Be Irrational For Once in Your Lifetime!" and the numbers 3.14.15 9:26:53 - that's pi to the tenth digit, which only happened once in our lifetime on March 14, 2015 at 9:26 pm and 53 seconds. Phew!

Pi-rate

Pi day isn't all apple and pizza pies! It's also a chance for math-loving pirates to strut their stuff. In this fun design, indie artist albyletoy draws a smiling pirate wearing a tricorne hat, a bandanna and an eyepatch in front of crossed cutlass swords. The word "πrate" in bold is shown below the art.

To infinity and Beyond!

Well, pi isn't infinite but it is irrational so its numbers do go on forever, ... like to infinity and beyond!

In this cute design, indie artist Monsterobots was inspired by Buzz Lightyear and created the Space Ranger in pi symbol form. Buzz's spacesuit features the pi symbol, and the hero is shown pointing upwards with his left hand as if saying his iconic catchphrase, "To infinity and beyond!"

3.14% of Sailors are Pi Rates

How many sailors are pirates? 3.14%, of course!

In this cute design, artist zawitees draws the pi symbol as a pirate, complete with tricorn hat (sporting a skull and daggers symbol, of course), an eyepatch, earring and a hook.

The text says, "3,14% of sailors are Pi-rates" (note: in the USA, the decimal separator is a point, but in many other countries, the decimal separator is a comma).
